How Do I Share My Location?

How do I share my location? Tap Get my location to share to get a map link and coordinates to send by text, WhatsApp, email or any messenger. It's a one-time snapshot, not live tracking.

Your browser will ask for permission. We don't store your location; it goes only where you send it.

Share your location in one tap

After you allow location access, the Share button opens your phone's share sheet with a map link to your position. On a computer without a share menu, it copies the message and link instead.

You can also send it straight to WhatsApp, a text message or email. The message reads “I'm here:” followed by your coordinates and a map link.

Below the buttons, copy a Google Maps link, an Apple Maps link, a link to this point on this site or the bare coordinates. The person you send it to sees a pin and doesn't need to install anything.

The link shows where you were when you tapped the button. If you move, send a new one. To send a meeting spot instead, tap Look up another place and search for it.

If the pin is in the wrong place

The shaded circle around your dot is the accuracy radius: your true position is inside it 95% of the time. A large circle means the link may point to the wrong building or street.

  1. Wait a few seconds before you tap Share. Accuracy usually improves during the first 10–20 seconds, and the links update with it.
  2. Step outside or move to a window. Indoors, phones often fall back to Wi-Fi positioning, which is roughly 65–330 ft (20–100 m) off.
  3. Turn on precise location for your browser in your phone's settings.
  4. Still off? Tap the right spot on the map. The coordinates and every link switch to that point.
  5. On a computer, location may come from your IP address, often miles off. For a pin you can trust, share from your phone.

Share your live location

To let someone follow you as you move, use the location sharing built into your phone or messenger:

WhereHow to share live location
iPhone, MessagesOpen the conversation, tap +, choose Location, then Share.
iPhone, Find MyOpen Find My, go to People, tap + and choose Share My Location.
Android, Google MapsTap your profile picture, choose Location sharing, then New share.
WhatsAppIn a chat, tap the attachment icon, choose Location, then Share live location.

Live sharing keeps sending your position for the time you choose, so set an end time and stop it when you no longer need it.

Share safely

  • Send your location only to people you trust: a link can be forwarded.
  • In an emergency, call your local emergency number first and read out your coordinates or address. Many phones also send their location to emergency services automatically.
  • GPS coordinates work everywhere, even where there's no street address: in a park, on a trail or at sea.
  • This page doesn't store your location. It goes only where you send it.
