Privacy Policy
In short: there are no accounts, we don't store your location, and coordinates go only to the services needed to answer your question. Last updated: October 10, 2026.
Your location
Your browser asks for permission before any page can read your location, and you can withdraw it at any time in the site settings. We request it when you tap a button, or automatically if you've already allowed it for this site.
Depending on the tool, your coordinates are sent:
- to BigDataCloud, to look up place names such as ZIP Code, county, city, state and country;
- to Geoapify, to look up a street address, fill in a postal code or county the place-name service doesn't have, name a point you typed or tapped on the map, search for places, calculate driving routes or list nearby cities;
- to our elevation service (hosted on Cloudflare), rounded to about 330 ft (100 m). It asks Open-Meteo for the ground elevation and caches the result by point, not by person;
- to the map tile server (OpenFreeMap), which receives requests for the map area you view.
The compass, the Qibla direction, straight-line distances, radius circles, coordinate conversion and the time zone shown on load are calculated on your device and aren't sent anywhere. The halfway page sends both midpoints to Geoapify to name them, and Compare with my location on the time zone page sends your coordinates to BigDataCloud.
What is stored
- On our server: standard web server access logs (IP address, browser, page and time) kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting. They're configured to leave out query strings, so coordinates in shared links aren't logged.
- On your device: your unit preference, whether you dismissed the language suggestion, and your last run in the run tracker until you tap Reset. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.
- In your browser: whether you allowed location access for this site.
We may count anonymous usage events, such as whether a location request succeeded. They never include your coordinates or address. We don't sell personal data, show ads or use advertising cookies.
Third-party services
The services listed above handle your request under their own privacy policies. Like any web request, they receive your IP address along with the coordinates or search text needed for the answer. Open-Meteo is the exception: only our elevation service talks to it, so it never sees your IP address.
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
