Two ways to measure your run
Track live: tap Start, allow location access and keep the screen on. The page follows your position, adds up the distance and shows your time and average pace. A point is added only when you've moved far enough to rule out GPS jitter.
Tap Pause at a long stop: the clock stops too, so your pace stays right. The run is saved on this device after each point. If the tab closes, reopen this page and tap Resume, or Reset to start over.
Draw route: switch modes, tap Center on me and tap along the streets or trail you ran. Each tap adds a point, and the total updates as you go. Undo removes the last point. It works after the run, on any device, and needs no GPS.
How accurate is the distance?
Phone GPS is usually within about 16 ft (5 m) under open sky. Over a whole run small errors can partly cancel out, but some things skew the total:
| Situation | Effect on the distance |
|---|---|
| Waiting at a crossing | Ignored: small drifts within the GPS error don't count. |
| Twisty trail | Can read slightly short, because the line between points cuts corners. |
| Trees, tall buildings, tunnels | Points are skipped while accuracy is worse than about 100 ft (30 m). The page warns you. |
| Faster than about 27 mph (43 km/h) | Treated as a GPS jump and skipped, so the tracker isn't meant for driving. |
For a drawn route, the accuracy is up to you. Zoom in and add more taps along curves for a more precise distance.
Keep the tracker running
- Start outdoors, away from tall buildings. Accuracy usually improves during the first 10–20 seconds, so early points may be skipped.
- Keep the screen on and this page open. Browsers stop location updates when the screen locks or you switch to another tab.
- We ask the browser to keep the screen awake. If it still turns off, set a longer auto-lock time in your phone settings.
- Charge your phone first: GPS and a bright screen use a lot of battery.
- This tracker is for quick measurements; to plan a route before you run, use the distance calculator. It keeps only your last run, in this browser, and never sends your route to us.
Frequently asked questions
How far did I run today?
If you didn't track the run, switch to Draw route, tap Center on me and tap along the path you took. The distance appears in miles or kilometers as you add points.
How do I track my run in the browser?
Tap Start before you set off and allow location access. Keep the screen on, because browsers pause location updates when the screen locks.
Why is my distance different from my watch?
Watches and phones sample GPS at different rates and filter errors differently, so small differences are normal. On twisty routes, the device that records more points can read a little longer.
Does it work when my screen is off?
No. Web pages can't track location in the background. We ask the browser to keep the screen awake, but locking it pauses tracking.
Can I track a bike ride?
Yes, at moderate speeds. Moves faster than about 27 mph (43 km/h) are treated as GPS glitches and skipped, so fast descents may read short.
